Chapter 178: Six months
Chapter 178: Six months
It’s been six whole months since Ivos Gala. The total estimated casualties for that event was around ten million, with most of those casualties coming from Nirvana city.
The few weeks following the attack, the human domain launched a full fledged campaign against the heretics. Every suspected base was raided, and every heretic found was eliminated on spot.
The royal and noble families all came together in that regard, particularly House Necron, House Darkfell, and House Whitemore who were more active during the raid. For, House Necron, it mainly had to do with the fact that Sevas was angry about the fact that the dark cult had the audacity to attack the human domain.
For House Darkfell, it was more of the same reason, Amon wanted to show the rest of the races that the human domain was no pushover just because of this little setback, so they were particularly active.
As for the last faction that was more than active, it was surprisingly House Whitemore. Apparently, the lady of House Whitemore had died during the attack, which was kind of weird. I remembered no such thing happening in the novel, but I also understood it was probably due to the butterfly effect that was myself.
After Sevas and Amon arrived and took care of the heretics, the lady of House Whitemore was found dead somewhere at the underside of the destroyed Agin flying island. She had been pierced in two by a massive ice javelin that went through her and into one of the major rocks of the now destroyed flying island.
It was said that she had been killed somewhere in the middle of battle, and no one had noticed her death. It was a given, after all, in a battle between high rankers, one had to give all their focus. A single momentarily lapse in attention could spell one’s end, so no one had the luxury to watch out for others.
With everything that happened, it showed why House Whitemore was particularly active in the raid, and so was their patriarch who furiously joined in.
All these aftermaths however mattered not to us students of the astral mystic Institute. A week after the events, we were back to the institute. The unsurprising thing -at least to me- was that the astral mystic island looked untouched when we came back, even though a battle of cataclysmic scale had happened right here. But it was a shame really, the beautiful overwater city was gone, completely erased.
Everything went the same as in the novel safe for the fact that Anastasia and myself were also hunted during the attack, and the fact that the lady of House Whitemore met her end.
In conclusion, if there was anyway the aftermath of the attack affected Alistair and the main cast, it was that it showed them how weak they truly were compared to the truly powerful.
After arriving back in the academy, Alistair and the others threw themselves into serious training. It wasn’t to say I also wasn’t training hard, if anything I trained harder than everyone else.
"In our next meeting, we’ll be discussing the gulf separating Vorde and Remea." Instructor summers smiled brightly. "Including the islands in between." She added.
At the instructor’s words, Anastasia turned her head from her seat and looked up at me. The moment our eyes met, an involuntary shiver ran down our spine.
Black sands island and the Ashen deadland had been a horrible ordeal, one we would not like to revisit.
"See you in the next class." Instructor Summers promptly walked out of the class. And the moment she did, every single student in the class broke into a sprint.
Where are we all sprinting to you ask? Well you see, during the past six months, everything had been pretty monotonous, be it the classes, the tests and exams, or even training. But the only thing that was ever-changing was the combat class. Instructor Black always found new ways to a challenge our souls.
Two whole semesters had passed in the first year, and the third had begun not long ago, but the sight of instructor Black was still enough to give us trauma.
Also, the reason everyone was sprinting like madmen was because the last ten to reach the combat grounds would be in for it with instructor Black.
Even though there was no way I would get in be in the last ten to arrive, this was still somewhat a competition. So, I still gave it my all and exploded forth with all the speed I could muster, even going as far as utilizing my technique and becoming as elusive as a mirage. One moment I was here and the next I wasn’t.
Though, a scarlet blur still stood ahead of me, and a persistent golden blur was running side by side with me. The scarlet blur ahead soon disappeared into the combat grounds, immediately followed by the golden blur and myself entering simultaneously.
We were met with Anastasia’s smirking face the moment we entered.
"You lose."
"I’ll strive to do better next time." Alistair smiled.
"Lose what? Since when did anyone say it was a competition." I retorted shamelessly.
"Well, we’ll make it a competition tomorrow." Sia replied without skipping a beat.
"I won’t indulge in children’s games."
Rose entered at that point, followed by Fabian. Seconds later, students began pouring in. However, as a student attempted to enter, she was blocked by an invisible field. The student’s face paled significantly, and so did that of the others behind her.
-"Yes! I made it on time today." A student cheered.
"Me too!" Another exclaimed.
I looked around as some cheered, while most looked nonchalant. Our class of forty students had been reduced to only twenty- seven. Some had died during the attack at the Ivos Gala, and most had died during missions.
Those weren’t the only changes in the past six months.

My rank had advanced significantly, and so did my techniques. I had advanced to the Theta- rank five months ago, and the Theta rank two months ago. Not only that, I had also made great progress on the sorcery tomes I had taken.
That wasn’t to say that others stood stagnant, Anastasia and Alistair reached the Theta+ rank a month ago. I wasn’t surprised though, just like myself, their progression speed was absurd, we all had Omega ranked physiques after all. In the novel, only Alistair had the advantage of having such physique, so he surpassed pretty much all his peers.
But now I also have that advantage, barring the golden liquid I had drank at the island of black sands, I had gone from the Eta- rank to the Theta rank in roughly eight months.
The others like Fabian, Rose, Aric and Levi also simultaneously reached the Theta rank one after the other this past week. Others like Dion and Delilah meanwhile, were still at the Theta- rank.
"What are you looking for?" Dion asked seeing as I was looking around.
"Nothing." I said shaking my head with a smile.
"You were looking around for something though." he insisted.
"I said there’s nothing."
"Silence!"
Instructor Black appeared in the combat grounds and barked an order to silence everyone. The combat grounds went as silent as a graveyard. The instructor then slowly turned his head to the ten students that hadn’t made it.
A cruel grin parted his lips.
"What do we have here?" The students shivered at his voice. "Come on in." His grin widened as the invisible force preventing them from entering vanished.
"They’re in for a lot of trouble." Dion muttered. "How funny would it be if someone pisses themselves." he chuckled.
"...." Why would anyone piss themselves. Instructor Black wasn’t slaughtering them, at most it was punishment under increased gravity to the point that their limbs won’t work properly for the next few days. Okay, maybe they did have the right to frightened.
"Would you be as frightened as them if you were among them?" Dion asked looking at the increasing paling youths.
Would I be? I asked myself. The punishment itself was just hellish training, so I didn’t see myself being that scared.
"I fear no man." I replied after a moment of thought.
At that moment however,
"Williams, Darkfell, you’re joining them." Instructor Black’s grinning face turned to us.
"Oh shit!"
