Requiem Of A Failed Hero

Chapter 441: Effortless

Chapter 441: Effortless

The two intruders clashing against Nata suddenly became super wary as they witnessed their comrade’s head roll to the ground.

Agitation tore through one’s facial features, grotesquely contorting it.

"Hey, wait—"

Before the voice of the other could settle in his head, he dashed towards Raith, a gust of wind excitedly pushing him forward to his own death.

"You didn’t need to rush so much."

The dashing intruder wasn’t sure what Raith had done. He was sure that Raith was over there. Even though he acknowledged his speed, he didn’t think he was fast enough to overcome that distance in such a short amount of time.

And he didn’t even see Raith move!

What was wrong? What was going on? Why was he feeling a sharp pain in his belly? Why was blood pouring from his mouth?

"H-h-how?" His lips stammered.

"I own this place. From the moment you became entrapped in this darkness, your fates were sealed. This was none of my business before, but now it is."

Raith used his hand to push the guy aside by the shoulder. By appearance, it was a slight push, but the guy flew away, crashing into the ground with a resounding thud that shook the atmosphere a bit.

Raith’s heterochromatic eyes then drifted to the last guy who now stood frozen. He walked closer to the guy.

Walking would approximately take about twenty to thirty steps; however, Raith didn’t take up to five steps before he was in front of him.

It was like the distance between them shrank for some reason.

"Who? Who are you?" The last intruder stuttered.

Raith grinned satisfactorily.

"Me? I am a weapon of death fashioned against primordials. Hehehehehe."

A twisted, dark chuckle bellowed out of his throat, eerily painting the atmosphere with its echoes.

From the standpoint of others, it looked like Raith had gone mad all of a sudden. Well, he always had it in him to go mad; he considered himself a ticking madness bomb.

"If you are a weapon fashioned against primordials, then the one that you should be facing right now is that woman."

Raith stopped his chuckle abruptly and fixed the intruder with a scowl. He glanced back then looked at the man.

"That woman? That woman? How dare you refer to my sponsor as ’that woman.’"

The intruder’s eyes widened. Without any waste of time, the intruder launched himself into the air, backflipping away from Raith and putting a large distance between the two of them.

However, he was quite ignorant and foolish.

Raith raised his eyes to the man who was slowly coming to land, saying,

"I told you, didn’t I? I own this place?"

He joined his left hand to the handle of the sword, taking it down and preparing himself like he was recharging.

Belatedly realizing that the person he was running away from was right beneath him again, the intruder tried to maneuver himself, but it was too late.

Raith swung his sword upward, slicing one of the man’s legs swiftly.

The intruder fell with a guttural scream; he wasn’t even granted the chance to act or show the extent of his power. They were the elite force of the cult; he was strong too.

’What in the world is going on?’

Raith looked at him and stared down, his sword looking ready to go again.

"I will ask only once. If you want to live, then answer me immediately when I ask. Why are you after her?"

The intruder could feel fear crawl in his heart; he wanted to live, he wanted to get out of this place as fast as he could, but at the same time, this was classified information—he couldn’t just go around spilling it.

Before he knew what he was doing, his mouth was already dancing on its own.

"The Order of Virtue, they are loyal helots that preach against certain primordials. Word got out that the Forsaken Star violated the primal will of the union of universe. Because of their loyalty, they issued out a private bounty to some players and also equipped us with the needed tools to find and kill her."

Raith folded his arms. "Wow... that’s mean."

"I swear, I am not in for it. I just needed the money."

Raith nodded. "I know. I actually understand you, and now, I even feel sorry for cutting your leg. All you were doing is hustling for yourself. See, I know what it’s like to hustle for myself too, you know."

He sighed, shaking his head. "The hustle is very hard."

Forsaken Star walked closer to Raith, a slight frown falling on her face as she reached his side.

"What are you doing? Kill him."

Raith exchanged looks between him and her; the man was fervently begging him.

"Please please, I swear I was jus—"

A thin red line appeared on his lips, and his head fell off with a crude spray of blood.

Raith then turned to the Primordial, his face breaking out into a blank wall.

"I only obeyed you because you were helpful to me. I was happy. But I am not going to let you order me around, primordial. As per the contract, I am only obliged to protect you."

He made it clear and walked past her. As he did, the dark veil that no one knew was in the sky began to wear out, slowly clearing to reveal the normal city.

Even though the night was deep, there were still lights here and there in the city.

He reached Theta and Nata and looked at them for a moment.

"I’m glad you guys are fine. Now, let’s go."

"What about her?" Theta threw a glance in the lady’s direction. "If I heard right, she is a primordial."

"Let’s go, she has her legs."

"Lord Raith, you can’t treat a primordial like that. It’s unacceptable," Nata rebuked him with a frown.

"Eh? What is this?"

He watched as both of them hurried back to her and bowed their heads respectfully, then soon steadily walked towards him with her.

’Really?’

Raith was confused for a moment, but then he remembered that the two of them were from a world that was knowledgeable about the existence of primordials.

They revered and exalted all primordials as the peak of existence. It was only him that hated their race.

He sighed and turned away.

"Damn, I’m tired. I need to sleep."
