Chapter 483: De-escalation By Surprise Individual
"S-stop! I am Hilda Bon Ember! You cannot arrest me!"
The manager’s eyes sharpened at Hilda’s words.
Bon? As in Bonwire? That backward branch territory in the west that produced the first female candidate in decades to be born with fire affinity and inherit the main family name?
Looks like this seals their fate...
Leo was someone who could casually give 200 gold coins to his slaves; it didn’t take much thought to realise that he was either very important or strong enough to afford it. Naturally, the city lord would favour Leo over Hilda.
Bon Ember? Leo thought. This was a title given to a branch family member with notable talent or deeds.
Nobility wasn’t bestowed upon them directly by the Emperor; rather, they inherited the title because their ancestors were nobles.
Even then, only the direct bloodlines possessed the eligibility for the title to be passed on to them, which was bestowed by the Emperor.
In the case of branch families—those descended from an uncle’s son or daughter or even further descendants—a middle name, usually an abbreviation of their territory, would be added.
But even to receive this secondary noble title, the person needed some form of merit.
Looks like the merit here is that she has fire affinity along with a certain level of strength... Leo concluded inwardly. Because there was no way this clown of a woman was smart enough to earn the title through intellect.
"You are a noble?" Leo asked, amused.
"Yes! A proper noble with a title! Not a wannabe noble like you who hasn’t done any notable deed to earn one! You have no right to have me arrested!"
Leo ignored her shrill cries and turned toward the guards, who were visibly hesitating after hearing Hilda’s background.
"And you won’t arrest her just because of that? Even if someone is related to the city’s ruling authorities, a crime is still a crime. Don’t tell me the city’s policies are so oppressive toward the common populace that any random person from the City Lord’s family..." He glanced at Hilda.
"Whose existence might not even be known to the city lord can bully people and get away with it without proper punishment."
Leo shook his head slowly.
"Very disappointing."
"Y-you dare call me a nobody! Know your place, foo—"
"Wait!"
Hilda wasn’t allowed to finish her sentence before a man’s voice rang out from the background.
Leo’s eyes shifted toward the newcomer. He saw an average-height man with nearly black hair tinged faintly red under the light. He wore noble attire, and his untrained body barely reached Mid 1-star, perfectly befitting a spoiled heir.
Hilda’s eyes immediately lit up upon seeing him.
"Young Master Nirvan!" she called out hurriedly.
"Hilda, what are you doing here?" Nirvan asked with a frown. "Father has called all the branch family members to the castle for an important briefing. Not to mention, students from all the academies have already started gathering in the main area. You should be forming connections to secure a good team. Why are you wasting your time here?"
"I... uh..." Hilda glanced around only to realise all her friends had vanished. Apparently, they had been her team, and they had abandoned her before the main event had even begun.
Nirvan’s eyes naturally shifted toward the man standing at the centre of the commotion.
"And you, what academy do you belong t—!"
He froze midsentence when his eyes landed on the academy badge resting on Leo’s chest. Until now, he hadn’t noticed the emblem because Leo wore the academy cloak like a cape while facing him.
"Kuhm!" Nirvan cleared his throat awkwardly before continuing.
"Student of Aurelius Beast Academy, I know you are proud of being part of such a prestigious institution. But that doesn’t mean you should let it get to your head and try to have a family member of the City Lord arrested over a petty squabble. Let the matter slide for today and make peace. You have more important matters at hand; don’t ruin your mood over something so small."
Nirvan was about to turn and leave when his eyes suddenly caught sight of a vivid shade of red.
But before he could properly focus on it, Leo spoke.
"Young Master... Nirvan, I suppose. So, according to you, having my private property harmed and ruined is a petty matter?" Leo asked calmly. "In that case, if some random hobo were to tear apart a priceless piece of artwork you owned, would that also be considered petty? If so, then take me to your most precious possession and allow me to test whether this ’petty matter’ truly remains petty."
Nirvan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"What are you trying to say?"
"What I’m saying is that this woman tried to harm my maids, falsely accused them of theft to get them arrested, and even risked burning down this expensive establishment. And it would have burned if not for my maids stopping the fire-based attack. If that doesn’t warrant an arrest, then what does?"
"Maids?" Nirvan finally looked toward the elves and was instantly captivated by Naelith’s appearance.
So beautiful... and that bright shade of red. She must possess extremely high fire affinity!
He also noticed that Naelith was an elf, meaning she naturally possessed high innate mana capacity and spiritual alignment.
And because she was an elf, she was naturally a slave who could be bought and sold.
I need to secure her. She’s my ticket to a good life. I just need her to bear my children somehow
Leo frowned faintly as he sensed the thoughts running through Nirvan’s head. As a Peak 4-star individual who had mastered a soul technique related to perception, Leo could easily discern the intentions swirling within Nirvan’s mind.
This fucker...
Leo could already tell Nirvan had imagined countless scenarios where he slept with Naelith and forced her to bear his children until he obtained the offspring with the talent he desired.
But beneath all those thoughts was raw lust. At this moment, Nirvan simply wanted Naelith for himself.
